Registration Codes

The page shows the group Registration Codes List. Use the add action of the list to create a code, and the edit and delete actions of each row to change or remove one.

The list

For each code, the list shows:

  • Registration Code: the code.
  • Origin User: the user who owns the code, with login, name and email. It reads no origin if there is none.
  • Status: Draft, Active, Inactive, Exhausted or Expired. See the statuses below.
  • Given Role: the role the code gives.
  • Usage Count: how many users used the code, followed by the maximum if you set one, for example 3 / 10.
  • Expiration Date: the expiration date of the code, if you set one.

When a code was used at least once, click its usage count. A window titled (code) Code History lists the users who used it, in two columns: User (name and email) and Date.

Find a code

Above the list, you can filter the codes:

  • Code…: search a code.
  • User…: search a user by login, name, email or ID. It finds the codes owned by this user and the codes this user used.
  • Filter by given role: choose a role in the Role … field, then click Apply. Choose All to remove the filter.
  • The status links: All, Draft, Active and Inactive.

Create or edit a code

The code form has two groups.

General Information

  • Registration Code: type the code. Leave it empty and the field reads Empty → Automatic generation: the plugin generates a code with the length and pattern of the Settings page. A code can’t be longer than 64 characters, and two codes can’t be the same.
  • Code Status: read only. Use the activate and deactivate actions to change it.
  • Origin User: the user who owns the code. Search by email. If you leave it empty, you become the origin user.

Settings

  • Role to give: the role given to the user who registers with the code. A code can’t be saved without a valid role.
  • Max uses: how many users can use the code. Leave 0 for no limit.
  • Expiration Date: pick a date. The code stops working when this date starts. Leave it empty for a code that never expires.

Statuses

  • Draft and Inactive: the code can’t be used.
  • Active: the code can be used. A new code you create from this page is active at once.
  • Exhausted: the code reached its maximum number of uses.
  • Expired: the expiration date is reached.

Each row has a quick action: Deactivate (Deactivate the code) on a code that is active, expired or exhausted, and Activate (Activate the code) on a draft or inactive code. Deactivate a code to stop its use without losing its history. Delete it to remove it from the list.

What a code gives

When a new user registers with a valid code, the plugin records the use, then gives the role of the code. The new role replaces the user’s role. If the user is an administrator, the role is added and the administrator role is kept.
