By default, customers redeem their rewards themselves. With Automatic Rewards Redeem, WooRewards unlocks rewards for them as soon as they can afford one. This option belongs to the standard points and rewards systems of WooRewards Pro.
Where to set it
Go to
Open your standard system. In the Rewards group, make sure Rewards Type is set to Rewards. The Automatic Rewards Redeem field is not shown in Points on Cart mode, and leveling systems do not have it. A leveling system has its own field, Unlock Best Level Only, with the values Off and On.
The four modes
- Off (default): the customer redeems rewards manually. WooRewards sends the Reward Choice email each time the customer earns enough points for at least one reward, if that email is enabled.
- Unlock best reward only: WooRewards unlocks only the most expensive reward the customer can afford, and takes its cost. The points left stay on the account.
- Unlock best reward first: WooRewards unlocks the most expensive reward the customer can afford, takes its cost, and starts again with the points left. It stops when no reward is affordable. The same reward can be unlocked several times.
- Unlock best reward and reset points: WooRewards unlocks the most expensive reward the customer can afford, like Unlock best reward only, but takes all the points of the customer, not only the cost of the reward.
If several rewards share the highest cost, WooRewards unlocks only one of them.
When the check runs
WooRewards checks for rewards to unlock right after a points action gives points to a customer. The checks follow the mode of each system. When several systems share the same points reserve, they are checked in this order: Unlock best reward and reset points, Unlock best reward only, Unlock best reward first, then Off.
With the Scheduler add-on
The Scheduler add-on adds an option to the settings of a standard system: Cannot be unlocked by user. Its help says: If checked, users can’t redeem their rewards. Rewards will be unlocked by the scheduler. and This won’t work if Automatic Rewards is set to off.
Here is how the two options work together:
- With Cannot be unlocked by user checked, the check that runs after a points action no longer unlocks anything, and customers cannot redeem by hand.
- A scheduled action Check for Rewards runs the check for the customers who can afford at least the cheapest reward. It ignores the restriction and unlocks rewards following the mode of the system.
- With the mode set to Off, that check only sends the Reward Choice email and unlocks nothing. This is why the Scheduler option is greyed out while a standard system is set to Off.
So to unlock rewards only on a schedule, choose one of the three automatic modes, check Cannot be unlocked by user, and add a Check for Rewards action.
