If your Cart and Checkout pages are built with the WooCommerce blocks, customers pay with their wallet through two tools: the Virtual Wallet Payment method, which pays the whole order, and the Use your Wallet line, which pays part of it. This article shows what the customer sees in the Checkout block, which settings drive it, and what differs from the classic checkout.
The settings themselves are described in Standard Wallet Settings and the classic display in WooCommerce Display. They are not repeated here.
Pay the whole order with the wallet
Customers pick the payment method like any other. In the Checkout block it is shown as follows:
- The title is the Title of the gateway. With Show icon on, the wallet icon is displayed next to it.
- With Show balance on and a logged-in customer, their balance is displayed next to the title, written Your current balance : (amount).
- The Description of the gateway is displayed when the method is selected.
When the customer cannot use the wallet for this order, a warning icon is displayed before the title and the description is replaced by the reason. The reason can be:
- The Not logged user message, for a visitor who is not logged in.
- You don’t have enough money in your wallet : Actual balance is (amount)
- Some items in your order can’t be paid with your Virtual Wallet.
- This order cannot fully paid with your Virtual Wallet.
- Shipping fees can’t be paid with virtual wallet money., when you did not allow shipping fees to be paid with the wallet.
- Your order contains products that cannot be bought with your Virtual Wallet: (product names), when Wallet credit can’t be bought with the wallet is on.
With Hide if not allowed on, the method is not displayed at all instead. The gateway options are in the Payment Gateway section of the standard wallet settings.
Pay part of the order with the wallet
In the Cart and Checkout blocks, the order summary gets a line named Use your Wallet. The customer sees it only if all these conditions are met:
- Enable partial payment is on.
- The customer is logged in.
- There is no WooCommerce Subscriptions product in the cart.
Then the customer uses it this way:
- Click Use your Wallet to unfold the tool. It starts folded.
- The tool shows Your Wallet contains and the balance. If the balance is zero, nothing else is displayed.
- Type an amount in the Enter amount field. A comma or a dot can be used as the decimal separator.
- Click Apply. The button shows three dots while the cart updates.
Once applied, the amount appears in the order summary as a negative row. Its name is the label you set (see below), Virtual Wallet by default. The field then shows the amount that was really applied. To change it, type a new amount and click Apply. To remove it, clear the field, or type 0, and click Apply.
The amount cannot be higher than the customer’s balance. The server also brings it back inside the limits you set: see Payment Restrictions below.
Settings that drive it
Partial payment
Go to
In the Partial Payment group:
- Enable partial payment : turns the tool off or on. When it is off, the line does not appear.
- Order summary Label : the name of the row in the order summary. This field replaces the Partial payment tool display link when your Cart and Checkout pages both use blocks. Leave it empty to get Virtual Wallet.
Payment Restrictions
In the Payment Restrictions group of the same tab, Limit Partial Payment to a percentage of cart total, Lower Cart Limit and Minimum Cart Amount limit the amount a customer can apply, as in the classic checkout. If the customer types more than the limit, the amount applied is the limit, and the field shows it.
How the amount is shown
Go to
In the Plugins Compatibility group, the Partial Payment by Fees toggle changes how the amount is added to the order:
- Off: the plugin adds its own row to the order summary and lowers the order total by the amount.
- On: the amount is added to the order as a negative fee, named with the label above, and it carries no tax. WooCommerce displays that fee itself, so the plugin does not add a second row.
What differs from the classic checkout
- The position and the look are decided by WooCommerce. Cart Display, Checkout Display, the two Reload … page after amount modification options and the styling tool of the partial payment group only apply to the classic checkout.
- The block has no Use Max Amount button. The customer types the amount.
- The texts of the block (Use your Wallet, Your Wallet contains, Enter amount, Apply) are not options of the plugin. Change them with a translation tool. Only the row name can be changed in the settings.
- The Alternative Text of the Payment Restrictions group is not displayed in the block. When the cart is under the Minimum Cart Amount, the amount applied is brought back to 0.
After the order
The order shows the same in both checkouts. The amount paid with the wallet is displayed:
- In a column named Virtual Wallet Partial Payment, in the Orders list of the customer’s My Account and in the orders list of the administration. It shows a dash when there is nothing paid with the wallet.
- In a row named Payment by Virtual Wallet in the order totals: on the order page, in the order emails and on the order screen of the administration.
The wallet is debited when the order reaches one of the Order statuses to pay. See Standard Wallet Settings.
