Show the Calendar to Your Customers

Publish the calendar page

On activation, the plugin creates a draft page named Advent Calendar holding the shortcode [codefaeries_advent_calendar]. Review it in

then publish it. The settings page tells you which page shows the calendar. You can also place the shortcode [codefaeries_advent_calendar] on any other page. A calendar with no box shows nothing.

What your customers see

The calendar is a grid of boxes. Each box is in one of four states:

  • Locked: its day has not come yet.
  • Open today: today is its opening date, the customer can open it.
  • Opened: the customer already opened it.
  • Missed: its day has passed and the customer did not open it.

Opening a box plays a short door opening effect, skipped for visitors who asked their device for reduced motion, then shows the reward in a window. On a phone, the grid keeps three columns.

Customers must be logged in

Each customer opens each box once, and the server checks it again, so opening a box requires a customer account. Visitors who are not logged in see the grid and the message Log in or create an account to open the boxes.

The reward window

  • A text reward shows its text.
  • A coupon reward shows You won a coupon, the coupon code and what it gives, such as the discount, free shipping and its expiry date. The customer taps the code to copy it, or clicks Apply to cart.
  • If the coupon has been deleted since, the window says This coupon is no longer available.

Look and feel

The free version inherits the fonts, colors and buttons of your theme: today’s box takes the look of your theme’s main shop button, the other boxes a quiet surface drawn from your text color. The Pro version adds four ready-made themes, see Themes and the Look of Each Box.

Your data stays on your site

The plugin calls no third-party service and loads nothing from another server. When you delete the plugin, its settings, boxes and openings are removed. The calendar page is removed only if it is still the untouched draft created on activation.
