Welcome to the VIP Memberships documentation. In this first section, you’ll learn how to create and edit memberships. In addition, you’ll see how they connect with WordPress roles. Finally, we’ll see how you can organize prices between different memberships.
Create a membership
After installing the plugin, it’s time to create a membership. VIP Memberships automatically creates the first membership. However, we’ll disregard it for now and create a new one.
First, go to the following page :
In this page, you’ll see all your existing memberships. You can edit existing memberships by clicking on the membership name in the list.
To create a new membership, click the Add button. Enter a Name for your membership and click the Save button. You will then access the membership edition screen.
Membership Settings
The first group lists all global settings for your membership. Here are the settings you can set here :
We’ll detail other group options in other parts of this documentation.
Product Rules
Here, you can define Membership access and price rules for your products. These rules can be overriden if you define rules inside specific products.
There are a lot of options there. Therefore, we’ll look at them one by one :
General
Rules
Categories
Page Specific Content
When you’re done with the rule, click the Save button. You can add as many rules as you want and edit/delete them at will.
Pages and Posts Visibility
For each membership, you can set a list of exclusive pages and posts that only members can see. In the two groups, you’ll see a list of all the pages and posts that exist on your website. Here are the options at your disposal
Sell your membership
When your membership is ready, it’s time to start selling it. Selling a Membership is really easy with VIP Memberships. Go to your WooCommerce products and create a new product.
Set a price for your membership like for a regular product.
In the Product Data group, you will see a new WooVIP Membership Tab.
Select the WooVIP Membership Tab. Then, select which membership will be granted when purchasing the product.
In addition, you can set a duration for the membership.
That’s it, you’re ready to sell memberships to your customers.
Memberships and Roles
Memberships are always associated to WordPress roles. Every time you create a membership, you also create a user role.
Information
A membership is a role, and a role belongs to a user.
You can’t identify an unlogged user or a guest user (tracking IPs is against the law in Europe, and in any case, it doesn’t identify a user). A website that lets you place a guest order while leaving an email during the checkout process will not create the link between the membership and the user.
If you create a new membership and name it like an existing user role, you’ll attach a membership to an existing role.
VIP Memberships also provides a full role edition feature. We’ll detail that feature in another part of the documentation.
Prices Priority
If you create multiple memberships or if you run sales on your store, you’ll probably want to use the prices priority feature. You can do so by going to the following page :
Here, you will find a drag and drop list where you can set prices priority.
Upper items have priority over lower ones. “On Sale” prices always have a higher priority than “Regular” prices.
Drag and drop items to change priorities.
Each membership has two items. One is for global pricing rules based on product categories. The other is for specific price rules set in the product edition page.
