In this guide, you’ll first learn the process to link your facebook page to a facebook page. At the end of this guide, you’ll also see links to other guides that will explain how to use this link.
1 – Configure your Facebook page
First, you need to configure your Facebook page. If you don’t, you won’t be able to link it to your page.
Start by going to the Facebook page you manage. On the left menu, click on Settings
It will display a new page. Select the Page Info on the left menu and go to Categories.
In that part, make sure that you add the App Page category and that this is the only category of your page. It is important to only have that category in your page.
This is all for the base configuration of your Facebook page.
However, you will also need your Facebook Page ID and Facebook Page Name later in this guide so it’s best to find them now.
Go back to your Facebook page. Once you’re there, you will immediately see your page name. Save it and then, click on More and About
On the bottom of the page, you will find our Page ID
Save your page ID on a text file or leave this page opened in a browser tab so that you can refer to it later.
2 – Create your Facebook App and link your Facebook page
It is now time to create your Facebook App. Go to https://developers.facebook.com/ and, on the top right, you will see a menu with either Start or My Apps. If you see the Start button, it means you don’t have a Facebook developer account yet. Click on the button and follow the procedure to create your developer account. Otherwise, click on the My Apps button to access the Apps page.
On that page, click the Create App button. In the Popup, select Manage Business Integrations and click on Continue. In addition to the app type, you will have to fill in some basic information. For the App Display Name, enter the name of your Facebook Page. Regarding the App Contact Email use your facebook email. Finally, for the App Purpose, make sure to set it on Yourself or your own business.
When that’s done, click the Create App button. As a result, you will see a new popup prompting you to pass a security check (A “I’m not a robot” checkbox)
In some cases, you won’t see that box (We saw this happen on Chrome and Firefox). Therefore, you’ll have to use another browser. For example, use the Opera browser to create your App. At this time, this is the only browser that lets you pass this security check all the time.
After passing the check, you will be redirected to your App’s page.
On the left menu, click on Settings → Basic
In that page, you need to set the following fields :
- Display Name : It is the same name as your Facebook Page.
- App Domains : The base URL of your website.
- Terms of Service URL : This URL should redirect to your website’s General Terms of Sales page.
- App Icon : An image file of at least 512 x 512 pixels.
- Category : Select the app category. If you own a business, you should select “Business and Pages”
For WooRewards Users
If you use WooRewards, make sure the App Domains field contains the base URL of the website where WooRewards is installed.
When you’re done, click on Save Changes.
Link your Facebook page
It is now time to link your Facebook page to your App.
- Click the Settings → Advanced button on the left menu.
- Go down to the App Page section.
- Here, you will see a choice. Either you link your app to an existing Facebook page, or you create a new page. If your App and your Page have the same name and your page was configured to “App Page”, you will see it in this section.
- Select your existing page and click on Save Changes.
This section will now look like this :
Congratulations, you managed to connect your Facebook Page and your Facebook App.
